Last week while I was watching ScyFy Network’s new show Warehouse 13‘s episode “Breakdown”, I had the distinct deja vu feeling of experiencing a roleplaying game adventure; in particular, I definitely suspected that the writers were survivors of the original AD&D pen and pencil era dungeon crawl adventure booklets. It had all the elements of those good old days of fun and geekdom that I often miss since moving to Maine. The young, super-intelligent, super curious one accidently gets herself into trouble again and the other two newly on the scene, just discovering the true hidden mysteries of the world beneath the real world, have to save her but find themselves caught in numerous traps unknowingly set loose by our errant teen genius. The only way to survive and set everything right is to work together…
Though admittedly, if it were my gaming circle our characters would probably have nitpicked and quarreled a bit more. We liked the drama, but you can’t fit all of that into 60 minutes with commercials.
Anyway, I think that’s what keeps me going back week after week. Well, that and my insatiable interest in conspiracy fun — it’s like XFiles before it got too darkly Mulder. It’s quirky and fun and geeky and silly and the characters play off of each other well. Which means it’s probably doomed.

I haven’t seen this series yet, but from your review, I’d like to. Thanks for the tip.
